This policy is for the Spirit Box II iOS app (also shown as Spirit Box; bundle ID com.ceosmith.spiritbox), published by Paranormal Gear. It is not the cookie policy for the paranormalgear.co.uk shop. Last updated: 19 September 2026.

Information the app uses on your device

Spirit Box is a local entertainment radio-sweep simulator. While a sweep is running it may use the following, all on the device and not transmitted to Paranormal Gear:

• Motion, tilt, and magnetometer / compass readings from the device’s motion sensors, to vary on-screen word “hits” for entertainment. On iOS this uses Core Motion. Readings are not stored after the sweep stops and are not sent over the network.
• On-device text-to-speech to speak selected word-bank words aloud, using voices already on the device.
• On-device audio generated by the app (scan noise and similar effects), plus short bundled CC0 music clips shipped inside the app package. Those clips are loaded from local app files, not from the internet.
• An in-memory session log of recent on-screen hits. That log lives only while the app is open. It is not written to iCloud, not saved in app storage, and not uploaded.

If motion sensors are unavailable or permission is not granted in a browser, the sweep still runs using its built-in word-bank chance instead. The app does not fall back to collecting any other personal data.

What the app does not collect

• Name, email address, phone number, or account credentials
• Precise or coarse location (no GPS, no location APIs, no location history)
• Microphone recordings, camera, photos, or contacts
• Health, fitness, or motion-activity fitness data
• Device identifiers for advertising or analytics
• Crash reports, usage analytics, or advertising data
• Payment information (the app has no in-app purchases or checkout)

The shop website at paranormalgear.co.uk is separate. If you use that website, its own privacy and cookies page applies to the site, not to this app.

Network use

Spirit Box is packaged as a local iOS app. It does not send investigation data, sensor readings, or session logs to Paranormal Gear servers. It does not include third-party analytics or advertising libraries.

Children

The app is intended as general-audience paranormal entertainment. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, because the app does not collect personal information from anyone.

Entertainment only

Spirit Box is not scientific equipment and does not detect spirits. Words, audio, and sensor-triggered hits are generated for entertainment.

Changes

If the app’s data practices change, this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date will change. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
